Page 2 But of the habits and/ condition of the people/ I do not care to write/ at least when the thermom/ -eter stands where it does/ today, it may be under/ 100 but it strikes me that/ it can not be far short/ of that. Today is very/ hot./ In writing to New/ Bedford, you need not/ put any no. on the/ letter as I am unable/ to give you Mr. Scott’s/ number. (With him we are/ to stop) so I will call/ at the Post office for/ letters./ I hope matters are/ going on smoothly. I trust/ Will get up in due time/ Page 3 in the morning and gets/ his breakfast and goes /to the yard and attends/ to matters as occasion/ may require. I think/ I told him that Edward/ would get a saddle and/ that he could take the/ driving horse out occas/ -ionally but that he must/ not take the carriage/ out under any circum/ -stance. Now one thing/ more I hope he does/ not keep bad hours, keeping/ the house open, and some/ one waiting up to let him/ in./ We shall try and be/ at home at the appointed/ time, as we shall in/ all probability realize that/
