Aug. 20th 1873/ Dear Edward:/ Your letter dated 18th inst/ but Post Marked yesterday, came to hand/ this morning 20 minutes before 10 just/ as I was compelled to leave for court,/ hence no time was afforded for getting off/ your order untill[sic] after the court had/ adjourned. As quickly as possible/ after adjournment, I went to my house/ for the purpose of hurrying off the box. Having/ only 3 copies all [told?] of the [eng. clo.?] I decided/ very quickly to make up the box without/ the compliment ("14 cops") you wrote for as you/ will see by your bill. Within the last few/ days I have been sending out books pretty lively/ and although I notified my [binders?] 2 days/ back, still as yet they have not filled/ my order. Today however, they promise/ that I should have some on Friday./ You with[sic] find a copy for my friend/ Rev. Mr. W Morris, which please present/ with my regards. Having none of the [Sheep?]/ with Steele engraving, I have concluded to/ send him a paneled style. If you chose/ to give two copies to two of the most influential/ papers in Newark, do so and charge them to me./
