Aug. 26th 1873/ Dear Edward:/ Your letter 23rd just/ came to hand yesterday in our ab-/ sence on a visit to Cross Roads and/ my old house and birth place. Where/ Ms Still, Robbie, & myself spent a short/ visit very pleasantly. But to tell you/ in what way we enjoyed ourselves,/ in the hurry of the present moment is out/ of the question, so I will pass on to notice/ some important points in your letter./ You allude to the fact that the books/ came by express and cost "$1.50"; I should have/ sent them as freight but for the fact that/ I was anxious to get them to you within/ the time limited, which was very short, and/ I felt sure that the [feate?] could only be/ accomplished by sending by express./ You tell me that you "have found a/ Sheep" &c. and which you have concluded to hand/ over to "Mr. Morris as he prepred[sic] that for/ his library". Now what will be done with/ the paneled copy that I sent him with/ his & my name written in it with/ my regards? Did you not discover/ this fact? Probably the [leaves?] might be cut out of the/
